ROI is a result of scale, which make bot spamming far less attractive on a platform like Medium. Where is evidence that the failure is due to poor design decisions rather than similar design decisions that are failing due to scale? What decisions, specifically?

I’m not ignorant of the technology. But “until we get a naming system” is doing a lot of work here on the human side where using terms like this really matter (and to whom the hype is being directed as a sales pitch). There have been, and will be, scores of technical revolutions within each time given an epochal title.
I assume you’ve seen this, but for fellow newbie IndieWeb wanderers, the Obsidian Hypothes.is plugin works well too. It uses built-in (Nunjuck) templating rather than Templater.
